North Mara

The North Mara gold mine is located in the northwestern part of Tanzania in Tarime District of Mara Region, approximately 100 kilometers east of Lake Victoria and 20 kilometers south of the Kenyan border.

The North Mara mine consists of three open-pit deposits – Gokona, Nyabirama and Nyabigena. Ore is fed from the run-of-mine (“ROM”) pad via a single jaw crusher into a secondary crusher and then onto a crushed ore stockpile. The crushed ore is reclaimed from the stockpile and conveyed into an open circuit SAG mill before passing to a closed circuit ball mill regrind. A gravity separation circuit is used to scalp free gold from regrind circuit. The ore is then processed via cyanidation and carbon in leach, followed by electrowinning and gold refining to doré on site.

In 2007, gold production at North Mara totaled approximately 237,000 ounces at a total cash cost of $451 per ounce¹. Proven and probable mineral reserves as of December 31, 2007 are estimated at 3.6 million ounces of gold².
