Cowal
The Cowal mine is located in Central New South Wales, Australia, approximately 32 kilometers north of West Wyalong and approximately 350 kilometers west of Sydney.
Mining at Cowal is by way of an open pit utilising a fleet of dump trucks, excavators and ancillary equipment. Initial ore mined is an oxide material with a harder primary ore at depth.
Process plant comprises of a 36’ SAG Mill and a 22’ Ball Mill. Different processes are utilised for each ore type with primary ore processed using a bulk flotation circuit followed by leach and oxide ore processed using a leach circuit.
In 2007, Cowal produced 240,000 ounces of gold at total cash costs of $417 per ounce1. Proven and probable mineral reserves as of December 31, 2007 are estimated at 2.9 million ounces of gold2.
